
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, born on the 22nd of March, 1976, is an American actress. Her numerous awards include an Academy Award, British Academy Film Award and Primetime Emmy Award. She has also won two Golden Globe Awards. Time magazine and Forbes both included her in the top 100 most influential people around the globe in 2005 and in 2006, respectively. Forbes named her the world's richest actress in 2021. Her net worth is believed to be $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 as she was a teenager. In 1999, she achieved her debut with the part of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions. She was also famous for her portrayal of Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Her fame grew with her role as Elle Woods in the comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel in 2003 and for her performance in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002). She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career the only box-office success was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen by producing and starring in Wild (2014). She received another Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. Since then, she has been involved in a majority of television productions and has starred in a variety of female-led adaptations of literary works. They include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show and the Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). In the very first, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. She also wrote and produced the films adaptations Gone Girl (2014) and Where the Crawdads Sing (2022).Witherspoon also owns a clothing business, Draper James, and she is active in both women's and children's advocacy organizations.
